Before jumping into the details one thing that we should clear is upgrading the console and console life cycle stuff is a whole new topic and we will not discuss it here. This is purely about the facts of PlayStation 4 Pro, so let’s get started.
PlayStation 4 Pro Everything You Need to Know:
What is PlayStation 4 Pro?
PlayStation 4 Pro is the new upgraded model of the PlayStation 4 and Sony said it is for the “highly discriminating gamer”. As you can see the new PlayStation 4 Pro is clearly marketed for the hardcore gamer. PlayStation 4 Pro has an overclocked CPU and double the GPU power at 4+ TFLOPS. And this new PS4 console is taking advantage of AMD’s new Polaris technology.
PlayStation 4 Pro is technically capable of 4k gaming and HDR with no actual 4k blu-ray player which is pretty interesting choice because Xbox One S does have it. It is worth noting that 4k difference does make a difference. Anyone who has played the 4k game or watched a 4k movie or video can easily tell you that how awesome that experience is.
PlayStation 4 Pro comes with 1 TB hard drive and Sony has said there are plenty of ways to transfer your library. The box also contains the new dual shock controller and new camera.

PlayStation 4 Slim:
Aside from the PlayStation 4 Pro Sony also announced the PlayStation 4 Slim which is exactly looks like a slim down version of PlayStation 4. I don’t know if people was asking for that but it will take over and become the main PlayStation 4 sold in the stores.
It is worth noting that PlayStation 4 Slim do not have an optical jack just like rumored. So if you use that sort of thing then be prepared. Another pretty important thing is that PlayStation 4 Slim and the standard PlayStation 4 will be capable of HDR via the firmware update and all the PlayStation products will get it.
HDR and 4K Gaming:
How this HDR and 4k gaming thing works on PlayStation 4 Pro is pretty interesting. According to Sony, the same discs and download will work both on standard model and PlayStation 4 Pro. What Sony is now doing is asking developers to code for 4K and HDR with every single game they’ve released.
So basically when they release a game on PlayStation the platform they have to have the version that works on the Original PlayStation and an upgraded version that works on the PlayStation Pro. Sony is still trying very hard and pushing this even though some people are confused. But they are trying to keep a unified platform, games now just work differently for certain products.
It is certain now that players will be playing different games on standard and pro PS4 like nothing is ever different. What it really does is just bypass the 4k technicality but streamlined rendering techniques that takes advantage of 4k displays and HDR ready TVs.
It is worth noting that at the end of the day, the 4k thing is still just the marketing thing and the PlayStation 4 Pro for most of the games doesn’t hit the actual 4k resolution. What it does is that it provide some fancy up scaling tech allowing developers to produce their games and make them substantially better on something that is 4k TV/monitor.
Developers gone on record saying that the resolutions are 90% close to what 4k technically is but a lot of these games are fancy games that are above 1080p. PlayStation showed off bunch of games that are working on PlayStation 4 Pro with pumped up graphics and resolution for games like up coming Spider-Man, Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, Watch Dogs 2, Horizon Zero Dawn and even Mass Effect. It is just fancy high depth rendering not actual native 4k resolution.
But all this hubla thing did not explain any improvement in fram rate per second which is more important for most of the gamers out there. PlayStation 4 Pro is also getting a Netflix app at launch with 600+ hour of 4k content. Youtube is also developing a 4k app for the PlayStation 4 Pro which is another cool thing to look for. Another thing to note that games that you already own may get a patch update which they are referring to as “orward compatibility”. This will transform your already owned games into more crisp and fancier on the PS 4 Pro.
